Band 1971

go to Band 1971

Together with von Haulshoven and Phrozenlight I've been doing some jamsessions under the name Dutch Space Mission, a duo project of Eppie and Bert. From now on the three of us will be called Band 1971. We play synthesizers, organ, other electronic gadgets and electric guitar. It is free floating music, dependent on the moment and mood. We will continue doing this. Everything we do is recorded on two track.

.....Poetry....

The Dutch poet Egbert Hovenkamp II has been in my studio, and we recorded the beautiful poetry he wrote while staying in this little house alongside the river Drentsche Aa. He gave me total freedom to 'colour-sound' his words.
And now the CD Músarrindill with booklet is available...a real CD!! Order here, or at Egbert's.
The presentation of the CD we did on October 22nd, in the Arthouse. It was a wonderfull afternoon. We did a small live set, and it was great fun.

The second album, InSpiratie, is ready, but currently not for sale. A third album is in the making.

Mantra

I've invited our Indian Yoga teacher G.N Rao in the studio to chant some Vedic mantra's and sloka's from the Bhagavad Geetha. The idea was to put music under them. By now I've done 15 of them.

Karma nyè vàdhi karastè,
mà phalèshu kadàchana
mà karma-phala-heturbhooh,
ma te sangòstva-karmani

You have the right to do your duty but,
do not expect any fruits thereof.
Do not seek the rewards of your action,
and, never be attached to not doing your duty (in action).

(Geetha/ Ch. 2-47)

Om Bhadjans

Another so called project is my collaboration with a bass/guitar/guitarsynth player and a female singer with shaman drum. The music we make is spontaneous and we always try to create an atmosphere where musicians and music become one. Repetitive patterns, sometimes mantra like, or minimal, sometimes only voices or just the layering of sound, going nowhere, or acoustic guitar-sing-song.
My main instrument is the electric guitar, but we try to put in electronic sounds as well, so....

'Magical Extension'

Another album that I have been working on, a psychedelic one, with lots of guitars, organs and effects, singing and acoustic instruments...something different.....If you remember the early seventies, you'll have a clou...
I had lots of inspiration from the music festivals we visited in Germany, this and last year. or should I say from the people we met, and their music?

It is still lying on the shelve...

In the meantime I produced a new album: The Inner Space Dimension.
It starts out as a real Golden-age electronic classic, but slowly it changes. It has some nice rock and psychedelic guitar work and there's also singing as the album evolves. It felt for me as if  I was working on an L.P. Side A and B are slightly different. I just let my creative flow do the job.

I have prepared Dharma, Samsara and Electronic Reality for Musiczeit. Later I will also put Elements and Sabda on Musiczeit....There's a lot of electronic music for sale on that site, so maybe that's also the place for me to be...!

Indian style electric string thing: the LeoVibe

At the time I was producing the album Open I made and used a tanpure-like instrument. Basically a log of wood with strings attached and amplified like an electric guitar. It sounds a bit like a sitar, due to a special bridge, causing the strings to buzz. It wasn't for playing melodies; just a drone, played like a tanpura.

Through the years I made some enhancements. And now it has got a set of sympatic strings, buzzing along with the main strings. It's still a prototype kind of thing, but since I started playing the thing with a slide it actually became a melodic instrument, sounding 'typical Indian' with all the twang and ziiing....

H.C. Feiler
(2010)

These songs were composed and performed by H.C. Feiler in my studio. The texts are famous Dutch poems, along with three Frisian, put on music. Feiler played most of them on just acoustic guitar (his main instrument) accompanied by singing; some with keyboard. Added sounds, organ, recording and mixing by myself.
We`ve been on it for more than two years. The poems are beautiful, and most of all meaningful, and a lot of them actualy formed the backdrop of his life, at the time of recording. The songs are small, melodic and performed and sang very tasteful. For me it was a great way to learn about this great dutch poetry, and the album has become a beautiful document.
